-May 2006-

We left dripping wet Boston on Monday evening. Our flight was great, very advanced plane with all the gadgets and the flight attendant asked about our destination and once she heard 'honeymoon' we were officially spoiled. Luckily this was before dinner so when dinner was served we were served with First Class. Not a bad way to start the vacation. We arrived in Venice after the seven hour flight and jumped on a shuttle bus to the ship. Once arriving on the ship we looked at our room and figured we better go see Venice. We took a water taxi directly from the ship's dock to central Venice. The weather was perfect and the view was amazing. We walked around with no map or destination and saw some great sites. To name a few: St Mark's Basilica, Doge's Palace, Grand Canal, Bridge of Sighs and many more. St. Mark's Square was very active with people, street vendors and pigeons. You could buy food and the pigeons would land all over you..needless to say we didn't participate in that but it was fun to watch people allow nasty birds to crawl all over them. We went back to the ship for lunch and decided to get some sleep. Luckily this allowed for a very early wake up and from our balcony we were able to watch the sunrise over Venice. Definitely amazing. We took the first taxi to Venice again to find the Rialto Bridge that we didn't find in our wandering the day before. It was so nice to arrive so early, no street vendors, no tours, mainly just Venetians going to work. We found the bridge and it was well worth it. It was a perfect picture spot. We had our 2nd serving of Gelato and headed back to the ship for the sail away (we were on the 'good' side of the ship!).

Yay! Off we go!

And dammit I'm sick of this @$%)@! rain!!

This is how 1st class eats! We pulled the honeymoon card and got treated like royalty on the plane! So YUM

And look how happy we are!

This is what the 'other' people get to eat (barf)

Sunset from the plane..very scenic

One of us kept the map tuned in our TV, it was so fun watching Europe get closer and closer...

After we landed we took a bus to Venice..even with no sleep on the 8 hour flight I was super excited

There she is..The Grand Princess..Mother of a ship..notice the normal size cruise ship parked behind us

Don't drive off the dock..in case you were thinking about it

Vinny and her highness

We check in on the ship and then headed right to the water taxi into the heart of Venice. This is Vinny in St. Mark's square.

and me in St. Mark's Square

St Mark's Basilica

A gondola in one of the many canals

Gondola central!

Venice was so neat to see. The way the city operates on water was just amazing. A perfect example is this UPS boat!

VAMH

Venetian kitty! Not very friendly I will add...

The Grand Canal from the Accademia Bridge

The police! Those 2 red and black boats were the police (sirens, lights and all) chasing a speeder on the canal.

My hotty husband

Are we lost? No...just trying to find out where we were with our handy street map my dad gave us

St Mark's Basilica again....CRAZY busy area...pigeons everywhere (ew)

We woke up the next morning and headed back to the city very early...the crowd was much better!

St. Mark's Square bright and early

Garbage day!

So beautiful, I loved Venice

Rialto Bridge

The view from the Rialto Bridge, very busy and very beautiful

A seriously crammed full water ferry....scary

Gondola

This is why no one got any souveneirs from Venice..tacky tacky tacky

Lost again? No..just trying to see where we did go...

Back on the ship..waiting for lunch to start...trading sunglasses

Sleeping already? We've only been awake 29 hours..stop being ridiculous...

Ok..I'll sleep too...ZZZzzzz

The tug boat that pulled us out of our 'parking spot'

Out on our balcony as we were leaving Venice..talk about a view!
